Requirements to Become an Aircraft Mechanic
• Basic requirements from the FAA:
– Be at least 18 years old
– Be English proficient
• You must:
– Obtain 18 hours of on-the-job training in power plants or airframes, or 30 hours of both.
– Graduate from an FAA-approved Aviation Maintenance Technician School.
• You must also pass an FAA:
– Written examination
– Oral examination
– Practical test
• Testing typically takes 8 hours per certification (power plant and airframe).
• If you pass all the exams within 2 years, the FAA provides you with a certificate.
